Hello Florida OMERs!
I wanted to take a moment and address the growing concerns regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and the upcoming State Tournament. I wanted to share that the entire State Board is aware of these concerns and we are monitoring the situation. As of now neither the State of Florida nor the Centers for Disease Control have recommended any school closures or cancelling events. The risk assessment for Orlando is considered low, and the CDC does not recommend any restrictions on movement or gatherings. We are following that course and as of now, the 2020 Florida Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament will proceed as planned.
For information from the Orange County Convention Center regarding COVID-19, please visit http://occc.net/Coronavirus. The Convention Center prioritizes the health and safety of all of its guests, and is taking available precautions including disinfection measures both nightly and during events and increasing the availability of hand-sanitization stations. While one conference scheduled for the upcoming week at the Convention Center has been canceled, it was due to the need for the
healthcare professionals attending the conference to remain at their jobs in their communities rather than due to any perceived risk at the conference.
We ask that all participants, volunteers, officials, and supporters to help by following proper health and hygiene best practices as outlined by the CDC. With your help, we can continue to make Florida Odyssey of the Mind competitions a fun and positive experience and keep everyone as healthy as possible.
